The PARIS driver is divided into two pieces: one piece runs in what is called User Mode, along with the PARIS application, while the second piece runs in Kernel Mode, along with Windows itself. The PARIS Studio Control Library is the User Mode bridge between the application and the Kernel Mode driver, called the Scherzo.
The original drivers were cleverly written to be as efficient as possible on a single CPU computer. The average PC when PARIS was introduces was a Pentium 133. Dual CPU computers were rare, and weren’t even supported by Windows 95. Decisions were made that worked well on a single CPU machine, but failed completely on a multi-CPU machine because variable could be changed by both CPUs at the same time.
I’ve spent the better part of the last 6 months revising both the PARIS studio control library and the Scherzo drivers so that they work reliably on modern, multi-core PCs in Windows XP.
This package also includes an updated ADAT.dll, which allows PARIS to synch ADATs under Windows XP.
The drivers are available by download as soon as your browser is redirected back to this site by PayPal.
